Earlier today I received an email inviting me to host a sneak preview of Wikio’s Top 20 Parent Blogs. The list will go live at the end of the week apparently and you can find it here. (showing September’s list at time of writing) I’ll admit that I thought twice about posting this. I have a love/hate relationship with rankings, I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t care and I never looked to see where I am, but it’s not the be all and end all.
So I’d like to say congratulations to everyone in the Top20 but also, if you’re not there please don’t stress it. Remember:
- You set the parameters for your blog’s success – nobody else – be true to yourself
- Every ranking system employs different algorithms to get their results. You may be high in one ranking and non existent in another – does either really say anything about how good your blog is?
- Blogging is a poor substitute for real life, never neglect those relationships…

Well done to everyone, and some wise words there. I don’t get how they do the ranking, so I am just pleased if I get in there at all. I was 156 in September and I was pleased with that I write for me and what I want to write about. A rank is a bonus to me to be honest! Some great blogs in that list though xx

Ok, I’ve taken the hint. I’ll put a ‘top 20 working parents’ blogs’ on Position Ignition, since our top ten recruitment agencies went down so well. And I might include Battling On, if you’re lucky :p

Very true, Paula. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m there and other great blogs that I love aren’t. I feel like I have been doing this 5 minutes and don’t know what I did to achieve top 20. And I know that I won’t be anything like as high in the Tots 100 (if I indeed make 100, which i doubt).
Shocked and stunned is how I feel, but I am not expecting to be there next month.
Such wise words but at times difficult to adhere to. Just been one of those weeks! Well done all those great blogs that have got on the list! There’s always next month!!

I’ve sent them six emails now asking for MR to be indexed so not quite sure why they seem to accept some and not others. NB – this sounds like sour grapes but it is in fact bitter melons. Just to be clear!!
